Meet Stillpoint’s Newest Addition!

Meet Stillpoint’s Newest Addition!

There is a new face here at StillPoint and we want to introduce you! Please welcome Mercedes McLaughlin! We sat down with her and asked her a couple of questions so you guys can get to know her better!

Q: “Tell us about your background.”

A: “I joined the mental health field due to my own experiences with the mental health system. I saw the integral role that therapists played in treatment of clients, and the way holistic wellness could shape lives. I received my BA from East Carolina University in Political Science and a minor in History. I had the chance to volunteer with Real Crisis Intervention in Greenville, NC. I made the decision to pursue a clinical social work degree and received my Masters of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I have worked at Pride of NC in community based mental health since graduating. I am a Certified Master Social Worker and also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.”

Q: “What do you specialize in? What types of clients do you hope to work with?”

A: “I’m an eclectic therapist. Meaning I use multiple modalities to customize treatment to each client. In addition to evidenced based practices I specialize in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Laughing Yoga, Expressive Arts and Art Therapy informed. I want to work with clients who are going through transitions, adjusting to life cycle changes, changes in role obligation, anxiety, depression and anger. I also am a member of and I am passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community.”

Q: “What is your favorite thing about being a therapist?”

A: “I love being a therapist due to the human connection. I find it so rewarding to be able to connect with clients on a deep level, help them identify goals, and work to create the changes they desire. Therapy isn’t a magic pill but working with clients to identify ways they are in control of their lives and empower them to make lasting change is so rewarding.”

Q: “Is there anything else you’d like our audience to know about you!”

A: “I love making therapy a fun and welcoming environment. I am open to incorporating practices into your therapy journey that have worked for you. I am always open to feedback and I want to know what has worked for you in the past. I want to create this journey made specifically for you. When we begin working together do not hesitate to share your needs, preferences, and wants.”
