Mercedes McLaughlin, CMSW, LCSW (she/her)

Welcome and Hello!

I am Mercedes McLaughlin (she/her). Thank you for learning about me, and seeing if I will be the best fit to help you reach your therapy goals. If you are here it means you may need an extra layer of support. Maybe you have been struggling to express yourself, found life to be a little too overwhelming, or just need someone to listen to you. I am here to validate those feelings, let you know it is totally “normal”, and that I am here to help you make sense of it all.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and according to the Strengths Based model, I know you have inherent dignity, worth, and all the strengths to be successful, in your terms, in life. I believe that you are the expert on you and that I am here to facilitate, gently coach, and collaborate to make the lasting changes you want in your life. Therapy with me is in a warmempathetic, and open environment.  I am an eclectic therapist and use diverse evidenced based modalities and holistic wellness some of which include Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Laughing Yoga, Expressive Arts, and Art Therapy informed. I incorporate holistic wellness and coping skills into sessions to make sure we are addressing the whole mind, body, and spirit. I believe that therapy should be customized to each client, and I take your preferences into consideration as we craft treatment goals to what works best for you.

I am passionate about working with all teens through adults struggling with life cycle changes, role obligations, school and work transitions, anxiety, depression, family issues, performance anxiety,  communication struggles, emotional regulation, self-esteem, or anger management. If you ever have felt like “adulting” is too much, that life feels unbalanced, or that you are in a perpetual state of exhaustion, we can start by working together to find out what balance looks like for you and how to incorporate it into your life through your therapy journey. I am also passionate about working with women and female identifying persons going through adjustments related to relationships, family, pregnancy, or motherhood. If therapy is a new concept to you and you have hesitations, I am here to meet you where you are and address goals in a supportivenon-judgmental, and fun way. We can work to process life, explore support systems, and set healthy boundaries. If you need support outside of this, I am always open to addressing diverse client needs.

I am also a member of, and I am passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ population. I have a unique personal understanding of the challenges faced by those in this population, and I want to work with you to be seen, heard, and ensure that your unique needs are met. Whether the challenge is related to personal identity, family conflict, or navigating life as an LGBTQIA+ person, I am here to address those needs with you. I also am proud to uphold the ethical value of cultural competency. If you are a client with specific cultural or spiritual needs, I am happy to work with yourespect your culture and beliefs, and explore how we can work together to address you as the whole person in a safe and welcoming environment.

I hope reading a little bit about me has given insight into the type of person and therapist that I am. I am excited to begin working with you to make the lasting changes that you want in your life! Currently I am available for tele-health appointments only and look forward to being on this journey with you!
