The Heart’s Healing Power

The Heart’s Healing Power

By Jessica King

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Listen to your heart, because it knows the way”?  According to research and a new tool Stillpoint will soon be offering, this couldn’t be more true. Heart Math has 25 years of research and technology that believes in the heart-brain connection as well as the influence it has on our body’s perceptions, emotions, and overall health.

Here’s the way it works:  Accumulated stress is often the underlying cause of challenges such as anger, anxiety, depression, lack of sleep, and illness.  Heart Math uses certain breathing and focus techniques while monitoring your heart rate to help bring the body into what is called “coherence”.  Coherence is a point at which your breathing and heart rate (physiological or bodily functions) and psychological (mental and emotional regulation) are in a more harmonious and ordered pattern.  During a session, we monitor coherence by using a gentle instrument that is placed on the earlobe or finger that detects heart rate and can show the rhythm on a computer screen.  Coherence is not necessarily relaxation, but instead a shifting to more renewing emotions such as compassion, contentment, and calm occur while emotions that are depleting reduce.  This makes Heart Math a great tool for emotional regulation and stress reduction.  It supports stress management, emotional regulation, and promotes resilience.

Heart Math has over 400 peer reviewed studies with over 11,500 participants that shows improved mental and emotional well-being after training for 6 – 9 weeks. The studies show decreases in anxiety, depression, and fatigue, as well as improved focus, calmness, and sleep.  It helps manage stress in the body for improved health outcomes and reduction in illness.  I have been using this technology with myself as well as my family and the results are tangible!

People of all ages can benefit from Heart Math training, even children.  You may want to look into a Heart Math session if you experience any of the following:

  • Excessive stress and negative health outcomes related to stress
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Inability to control anger
  • Behavioral problems/noncompliance
  • Inability to concentrate or focus that is not otherwise explained by a diagnosis or condition
  • Fatigue
  • Inability to Sleep

Heart Math helps you tap into the power and intelligence of your heart and your heart’s intuition to support your own healing.  At Stillpoint, we love Heart Math because its effects are at the core of our mission and vision to reduce the effects of chronic stress in our community.  Additionally, it works with the body’s own wisdom and natural inner healing powers to do the work.  We all have the ability to find our breath and the listen to the wisdom of our hearts to promote healing and growth.
