Standing Against Racism

So far, 2020 has been a whirlwind. But, these last few weeks have shown us the world we used to know will never be the same-and for good reason. The Stillpoint family is deeply saddened by the murder of George Floyd and many other Black people. Although we would love to say more about this issue, we are going to take this time to highlight and share some amazing resources from Black leaders in our local and virtual community. Now is the time for us to stand together!

 

Listen and Learn:

There are many Black leaders and educators providing resources right now, so do some research and find people to follow on social media, read books, listen to podcasts, have conversations with your black friends.

Take Action and Make a Change:

Think about ways that you can take intentional action against racism and learn to be a better ally. Here are a few organizations that may help you along this path.

CLEAR:  Community Linking & Educating Against Racism. CLEAR is a facebook group, administered by the Resiliency Task Force, that is intended to connect people of New Hanover County to education, resources, and organization that are leading the community forward towards racial equity.  

Be The Bridge: An amazing nation-wide organization focused on educating people and organizations about the “ racial brokenness and systemic injustice in our world.” They have chapters nationwide and one is right here in Wilmington! Support Black owned businesses: In the Wilmington area, check out Port City Gazette, a Black and minority-owned business listing directory and event calendar, to find Black owned businesses to support.  

 

VOTE!  Let your current political leaders know you will not continue to support racist policy that furthers institutional and systemic racism, and then follow through by voting for leaders that support anti-racist policy.
