Five Small Ways You Can Practice Gratitude

Holy cow… it’s November already?! I can’t believe 2020 is almost coming to a close. With 2021 rapidly approaching, it’s time to reflect on this past year. Although 2020 has been anything but easy, it’s important to remind ourselves that tough times will only make us grow.

If you’re finding it difficult to get into the holiday spirits with everything going on, you’re not alone! November is National Gratitude Month, so we’re going to talk a little bit about gratitude and some small ways you can practice gratitude if you’re not feeling very grateful these days. A study conducted in 2003 found there were multiple benefits of writing down one thing you are grateful for daily. The study found that people who did a daily gratitude exercise felt better about their lives as a whole, reported feeling more optimistic and were more likely to progress towards their goals.

Here are five simple ways you can practice gratitude daily.

  1. Keep a gratitude journal. The simple act of writing down ONE thing you’re grateful for daily has shown to have a major impact on mood.
  2. Express gratitude by telling someone you love them or WHY you’re grateful for them.
  3. One random act of kindness a day. This doesn’t have to be a big, grand gesture. Something as small as complimenting a stranger or even holding the door open for someone can be considered an act of kindness.
  4. Spend time in nature, away from your phone.
  5. Do a 30 day gratitude challenge! Join us on instagram @stillpointilm for a 30 day gratitude challenge! Each day we’ll be providing you with a fun journal prompt focused on cultivating gratitude!
