Many people come to therapy knowing that a past experience is affecting them, but despite their best efforts, they still feel stuck. Maybe a difficult memory continues to trigger anxiety, certain situations bring up intense emotions, or negative beliefs about themselves seem hard to shake. While talking about these experiences can be incredibly helpful, sometimes the brain needs additional support in processing and healing from them.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing life experiences. EMDR uses guided bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones—while clients focus on difficult memories or experiences. This process helps the brain reprocess these experiences in a way that reduces their emotional intensity and allows them to be stored more adaptively.
While EMDR is best known for treating trauma and PTSD, it can also be helpful for anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, and other concerns that may be connected to past experiences. EMDR can be used with children, adolescents, and adults.
At Stillpoint Counseling and Wellness, several of our clinicians offer EMDR therapy. We are also excited to share that our MSW interns, Cam Marrelli and Olivia Chewens, are currently receiving specialized EMDR training and are offering sessions for just $15 per session, with no insurance required.
If you’re interested in learning more about EMDR or wondering whether it may be a good fit for you or a loved one, we’d be happy to help. Give us a call, visit our website to schedule an appointment, or set up a free phone consult to learn more.
