Telehealth/Online Counseling

Telehealth/Online Counseling

Are you considering therapy, but are unable to meet in person?  Telehealth or online counseling may be an option for you.

Telehealth allows the facilitation of health-related services to patients via live video conferencing. Thanks to modern technology, just about everyone in the U.S. has a smart phone or tablet capable of video chat. This ease of access to make video calls has revolutionized the health industry, allowing health professionals to interact with patients through a convenient phone call.

Telehealth appointments can be very beneficial if getting to a traditional in-person appointment is a hassle for you. If you lack the time or resources to use public transportation, are physically disabled or live in a remote area, telehealth appointments can help by removing the need to leave your home to attend an appointment.

So if this sounds like you:

  • You are interested in therapy
  • You have health concerns that make it difficult to leave your home
  • You don’t have the right type of medical professional nearby
  • You have social anxiety or other phobias that cause you to avoid social interactions
  • You lack the time or resources to get to an in-person medical appointment
  • You want the ease and convenience of a video conference appointment

… then our Telehealth services may be just what you need!

FAQs:

Why Telehealth?

Online counseling provides convenience and ease to access and is reported to be as effective as in person therapy appointments.  It allows you to have the support you need in the moment regardless of barriers related to health, illness, or location.

How does it work?

When you request your first appointment, you will receive a link to a secure, HIPAA compliant platform (Simple Practice Telehealth for our office).  At the time of you appointment, you will use the link in either your web browser or through an app on your phone.  Your therapist will be there or you will see a “waiting on other participants screen”, while you wait for your therapist to join you.  You can expect to have the same therapeutic support and attention you would get at your in person appointment.

Should I be concerned about privacy?

Our Telehealth platform is secure and sessions are never recorded.  If you have concerns about privacy at your home, there are a few precautions you can take.  Choose a space that others will not interrupt you and that feels safe.  Think about placing a sound machine or music playing outside the room you using.  Additionally, using ear buds or a headset can help with privacy and improved sound

Other things to consider:

Remember there can be technical difficulties so taking plenty of time before your appointment to check sound and internet connects is something to consider.

You and your therapist can discuss any of your concerns related to Telehealth and/or therapy in session.  Feel free to express these so you can problem solve them with your therapist.

You and your therapist may take extra time in your first session to discuss Telehealth, setting up your space for comfort, and adjusting to the online platform.

How do I know if this is right for me?

If you are considering therapy as a support, but do not have the ability to get to the office, Telehealth is an option to consider at this time.  If you are home-bound for any reason and looking for an effective alternative to see a mental health provider, then online counseling may be a good option for you.  Our convenient Telehealth app with Simple Practice can help.
